Longview, Washington, September 30,2004-After more than 60 years of supplying wholesale-packaging distributors' needs with a variety of paper bags, Longview Fibre Company(NYSE:LFB) today announced intent to sell its bag business to Ampac Packaging LLC.

"Our focus continues to be on Longview Fibre's core business of being a diversified timberlands manager and a specialty paper and container manufacturer." said Wollenberg. "Longview Fibre will continue to be a major producer and marketer of bag-paper for our many converter customers, including our specialty line of TEA-Kraft™ multiwall bag-paper."
Ampac Packaging intends to purchase the bag-production operations at Longview Fibre's Spanish Fork, Utah, converting plant, and lease from Longview's the bag facility which occupies nearly 20% of the total Spanish Fork complex.
